Background. Africa is quite an interesting region for economic cooperation for Russia, possessing rich natural resources and energy potential. Today, the priority is the task of deepening trade and investment ties between our state and Africa due to the increasingly complicated relations with traditional trading partners (Europe, Asia).
Materials and methods. The implementation of the research objectives was achieved on the basis of an analysis of the historical and promising areas of cooperation between Russia and Africa. Particular attention is paid to mutual trade with a number of African states that make a certain positive contribution to the Russian trade balance.
Results. The article examines the evolution of the development of cooperation between Russia and the African region. The facts of the implementation of investment projects by Russian business in Africa, as well as statistical indicators of exports and imports with countries such as Ghana, Congo and Nigeria are presented, new commodity positions in Russian-Nigerian exports are noted.
Conclusions. The study of the development of foreign economic relations between Russia and Africa allows us to conclude that there are prospects for this kind of cooperation not only in the supply of military equipment and technology, but also in the implementation of cooperation ties, information and telecommunications training, and the supply of medical equipment and medicines.
